Whenever possible, HCC works with private land owners to create conservation easements that permanently preserve the land in its natural state.

For the community, these private-land conservation easements are crucial to preserving water quality throughout the entire Edwards Aquifer Region – and the staff at HCC works hard to focus on conserving the land that has the greatest impact on the aquifer system.
Take, for example, the historic Storm Ranch, which includes portions of the Onion Creek Watershed, the Blanco Watershed, and the Guadalupe/Blanco River Basin. The geology of this land is such that any water flow has a direct and rapid impact on the aquifer.
By protecting the natural state of Storm Ranch, we are directly protecting the quality of the water in the Edwards Aquifer.
