Saturday, June 1st: National Trails Day

Hill Country Conservancy invites you to attend National Trails Day – next Saturday, June 1st, 2013. REI, The Austin Parks Foundation, the City of Austin Parks and Recreation DepartmentHill Country ConservancyAmerican Youthworks Texas Conservation Corps, and community partners will host our 5th annual American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day volunteer workday on Barton Creek Greenbelt and trails throughout Central Austin.

Over 300 volunteers will work from 9am-12pm on various projects along Barton Creek Greenbelt, Blunn Creek Nature Preserve, Shoal Creek Trail at Pease Park, and the Zilker Nature Preserve. The Violet Crown Trail volunteers will work from 8:30am – 11:30pm in South Austin.

Following the work, HCC, Freebirds, and Honest Tea will host a Volunteer Appreciation Party from 12:00pm-1:30pm at the Zilker Rock Garden featuring lunch from the Freebirds and a Free Swim Day in Barton Springs pursuant to the Free Swim/National Trails Day/ commemoration of the June 6/7, 1990, all-night hearing proclamation.

In the midst of downtown Austin, Hill Country Conservancy will host a brand new Hill Country Nights dedicated to the same inspiring mission! We will also unveil exciting announcements about the first regional trail system in Central Texas –
the Violet Crown Trail.
Enjoy a mouth-watering spread from Salt Lick Bar-B-Q, dance to live music by the Mike Clifford Band, enjoy an Annie Ray photo booth, bid on fabulous items in our famous auctions, and more. And where else will you find Chicken $hit Bingo in the middle of downtown Austin?
